Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced Friday, March 20th, that the Trump administration has decided to push the federal income tax filing and payment date to July 15 from April 15.
Mnuchin announced the decision today via his official Twitter account, saying that at President Donald Trump’s direction “we are moving Tax Day from April 15 to July 15. All taxpayers and businesses will have this additional time to file and make payments without interest or penalties.”
The administration had announced earlier in the week that it would only defer the payment deadline to July 15th, leaving the April 15th filing date intact.
During a press conference on Friday, New York Governor Cuomo announced that the state income tax filing and payment deadline will follow the new federal guidelines.
We are awaiting official notification of these changes from the Treasury Department and the governor’s office.
