Michael R. Peress, CPA
Mike is the Partner-in-Charge of the Firm’s Quality Control Department. He is responsible for reviewing financial statements for conformity with generally accepted accounting principles, and audit reports and supporting work papers for conformity with generally accepted auditing standards and the Firm's quality control standards. Under his supervision, MWE completes a peer review of its accounting and auditing practice every three years and has consistently received unmodified reports, the last six without the issuance of a letter of comments.
In addition, Mike has primary responsibility for updating the Firm's audit manuals, has served as an instructor for various technical topics, is chairman of the Firm’s Audit Efficiency Committee and serves on the Firm’s Continuing Professional Education Committee, and is available for consultation on a wide range of auditing and accounting topics. Through his service in the Quality Control Department he is involved with technical aspects of audit planning, execution and review for all types of clients.
As an audit partner, Mike was responsible for the audit of the consolidated cost basis financial statements and current value basis balance sheet of a large real estate company controlling in excess of 12 million square feet of office space. Additionally, Mike provided audit and accounting services for manufacturers, distributors, service companies, investment companies and pension plans.
Mike is a member of the New York State Society of CPAs (NYSSCPA) and the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA).
He has authored articles for the CPA Journal covering materiality and audit risk, materiality considerations in real estate audits and audits of related party transactions.
Mike earned a B.S. degree in public accounting from the State University of New York at Albany.
