Lawrence S. Lioz, CPA, JD, LLM
Larry is a Tax Partner with more than 30 years experience advising clients on the business and tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions, restructuring of debt, reorganizations and liquidations, retirement, estate and business succession planning. He also represents clients on federal, state and local income, franchise, sales and payroll tax examinations.
Larry specializes in all aspects of tax compliance and planning for closely held and family-owned businesses in diverse industries with an emphasis in the healthcare industry. As Chairman of MWE’s Healthcare Services Practice Group, Larry’s expertise includes medical practice formation, choice of entity (i.e., corporation, partnership, limited liability company, etc.), joint venture proposals, profit-distribution formulas, employment contracts, succession planning, buy-sell, shareholder and partnership agreements, and sale/purchase of practices.
He has published numerous articles and lectures extensively on many areas of taxation. Larry is frequently quoted in newspaper articles and has appeared on television as a guest expert on tax matters. He is a recognized expert in the area of “S” corporations.
Larry is a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and is a Past President of the Nassau Chapter of the New York State Society of CPAs (NYSSCPA). He also serves on the Medical and Other Professionals Committee and the Federal Taxation Committee of the NYSSCPA Nassau Chapter. Larry is a member of American Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, Medical Group Management Association, National Society of Healthcare Business Consultants and Physician’s Viewpoint Network.
Larry earned a B.S. in accounting from the State University of New York at Albany, a J.D. from Buffalo Law School, and an L.L.M from New York University School of Law.
