Margolin, Winer & Evens LLP, a CPA and Business Advisory firm, is proud to announce that partner Paul Becht, CPA, has been elected vice president of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants’ Board of Directors. His one-year term began June 1.
Becht is currently on the Society’s Executive Committee and is co-chair of the Society’s Suffolk Chapter Accounting & Auditing Committee. Becht was previously a member of the Nominating committee and Selections subcommittee and served as a past Suffolk Chapter president, president-elect, vice president, treasurer, secretary and Executive Board member. He also served as past chair of the Suffolk Chapter’s Nominating and Sponsorship committees.
“I am thrilled and honored to serve the NYSSCPA in my new role as vice president,” Becht said. “The CPA profession is currently juggling a number of challenges from cybersecurity concerns and the pace of technological advances to uncertainty over tax reform and ever-changing regulations. There are several regulations the Society would like to see changed for the better, such as mandatory quality review for all CPA firms regardless of size. As part of my role as vice president of the NYSSCPA I will help ensure the organization’s voice is heard in the New York State legislature. The Society will make a greater effort to advocate for the profession by meeting with members of the New York State Assembly and Senate to share our concerns. Another concern we have is the number of young people joining the profession. I will meet with the leadership at several chapters throughout the state to encourage greater outreach to high school students, letting young people know about this rewarding career.”
Becht earned his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from SUNY Oswego. Becht joined the Society in 1998, is a member of the Suffolk Chapter, and resides in Nassau County.
